If your machine does not display pdf files, you can download and install Acrobat Reader from Adobe's web site. Depending on your browser, it will also offer to install a "plug-in" to your browser so that you can view pdf's directly on the web.

Clicking on a link to a pdf file on a Macintosh automatically downloads it to the folder set in the browser for downloads. To accomplish a pdf download in Windows, right-click on the link and select "Select Target As..." This is also known a "forced download."
