Buy and read the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. Enjoy the reading! Complete a double-entry journal (“notes and quotes”) based on your reading of the novel. Click here for instructions on how to format your double-entry journal.

Keep in mind this is work for an advanced class. When you return to school in September , you will be required to write an essay in class using only your reading journal as a reference. Since you will asked to include textual evidence from the book in your essay, be sure to record quotations accurately, with page references. Both the essay and your journal will be assessed by your teacher as part of your first-quarter grade.

Please note that your acceptance into the Advanced Level in September is contingent upon the completion of these summer reading requirements.
