Bookbinding at Mt. Ararat

Bookshelf
A "bookshelf" of our books since we went to full-color covers.

The stories themselves are not online.

Sections of Advanced Placement Lit classes at Mt. Ararat have made a book of their short fiction every spring since 1989. Our methods and our result changed a bit each year during the first couple of years, but since then we have pretty much standardized on the method described in these pages.

There are three stages to making the books, 1) write the material, 2) typeset the text and xerox the page-sets, and 3) bind and cover the book. Eventually, we hope to post descriptions of all three steps, but for now, we are just describing Step 3, binding and covering the book.

Our methods are probably a little idiosyncratic -- we are not professional bookbinders. But what we produce looks good, and the books are durable, so we're happy. The sequence indexed below is an illustrated elaboration of a handout we give our students.
