The reading is intended to deepen your understanding and appreciation of what goes on in these tales. It is not intended to be used as a primary source referred to in your paper. In fact, you probably would be well advised to avoid reading passages that relate to the story you choose--
Bettelheim's pretty big and he might be hard to walk around once his reading of your story is in your mind.
You are welcome to read as much of the book as you want--Bettelheim has a thesis directed mostly at parents that you might miss if you just read the assigned passages. But, at a minimum, please read pages
26-34, 41-45, 53-60, 66-73, 116-23, as well as any one section from Part Two.
