Summer Reading & Writing: Part Two

for students entering Advanced English II

Before July 30:

Choose a book from the list of Summer Reading and Writing: Part One. Send your paper as a hard copy (not email) before July 30 to Mrs. Galle (see below). Or, if you should choose not to read and, therefore, not to be part of Advanced English II, please send a letter to Mrs. Galle before July 30 notifying us of your choice.

Material should NOT be e-mailed. Students whose material is not received by postal mail at the above address by July 30, 2008 can expect to be enrolled in Academic English II in the fall.

After July 31 and before school begins::

Buy and read Ernest J. Gaines' novel A Gathering of Men.

Enjoy the reading. Complete a reading journal to help you clarify your understanding of the story. Record your thoughts and clarify characters.

Keep in mind this is work for an advanced class. When you return to school in September, you may be required to take a test over the book (using your journal) within the first week of school. You will be required to hand in a completed in-depth journal, which will be assessed by your teacher as part of the quarter grade.

Please note that your acceptance into the Advanced Level in September is contingent on completing the summer reading requirements.
