Math II
Prerequisite: Mathematics I
Full year, 1 credit
Tenth grade students enroll in one of the following four courses, depending upon proficiency:
Foundations in Math II
This course is intended for students who are interested in carpentry, plumbing, masonry, automotive, or electrical work. Practical applications to trades are stressed in the course, such as review of operations with whole numbers, percents & decimals, fractions, banking, physics, robotics with the computer, and basic metal and wood working.
Technical Geometry
This course follows Tech Algebra I. It covers basic geometric topics using an activity approach. Students are encouraged to explore and investigate using a variety of manipulatives and computer software, such as the Geometric Sketchpad. Topics covered include vocabulary, plane and solid figures, measurement, area, perimeter, volume, graphics, transformations, and trigonometry. Upon completion of this course, students would usually take Technical Algebra II as the third course in a three-year sequence.
Academic Geometry
The focus of this course will be to develop an understanding of geometric figures and their properties under various transformations as well as their measure properties. In addition, skill in drawing, visualizing, use of geometric tools, and real-life applications will be included. Throughout the course algebra, probability, and statistics will be integrated with geometric topics.
Honors Algebra II
This course is intended for students who have shown a proficiency in previous courses in the college preparatory mathematics sequence. The curriculum is similar to that of the Academic Algebra II course but work proceeds at a more rapid pace, in greater detail, and with a greater emphasis on trigonometry.
