Math III or IV

Prerequisites: the following courses may be available as Mathematics III or Mathematics IV courses, depending upon a student¹s previous study and demonstrated proficiency (consult descriptions for more details)
Full year, 1 credit

Explorations in Math

This course, taken following Academic Geometry, emphasizes problem solving over a wide variety of mathematical situations. It is an elective course available to students who enjoy mathematics and who are interested in exploring different areas of the field. Included are such topics as mathematical paradoxes, number theory, and different applications of geometry. In-depth study of trigonometry, statistics, probability and functions with the use of graphing calculators and computers is also featured. Many topics are identified according to interest. Group work and peer teaching situations are emphasized and encouraged.

Advanced Math

This course, taken following Academic Algebra II or Honors Algebra II, is intended for students who have completed Algebra II and wish to continue their study of mathematics, but who will probably not major in math or a related field at the college level. Topics such as analytic geometry, trigonometric functions, polynomial functions, polar coordinates, vectors, probability, and advanced topics in curve sketching are studied. The course will provide the necessary background for college level calculus.

Honors Advanced Math

This course, taken following Academic Algebra II or Honors Algebra II, is intended for students who plan to study calculus in their senior year or later at the college level. All important precalculus topics are addressed, including functions, number theory, probability, and an introduction to calculus.
