Barbara Franklin
Maine Music Educator of the Year
Barbara Franklin, Mt. Ararat choral director from 1982-2002,
was named 2000 Maine Music Educator of the Year by her colleagues in the
Maine Music Educators Association. The announcement was made at the
annual MMEA Banquet on May 19, 2000 during the Maine All State Music Festival
and Conference at Sunday River. Barbara was nominated by Mary Love Canning,
choral director from Dexter, Maine. Recommendations came from colleagues,
students, former students, and parents.
The MMEA Music Educator of the Year Award is given in recognition
of exceptional support and outstanding accomplishments by one MMEA member
to the advancement of music education in the schools of Maine. The nominee
must have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching young people through
music, and the ability to inspire positive attitudes among students, school,
and community. The nominee must also have demonstrated a consistently
effective and balanced program of music education.
