Physical Education II
Recommended level: 10-12
May be full year or one semester, 1/2 credit
Required to fulfill State physical education requirement
Students who have completed Physical Education I will complete the remaining required
physical education curriculum during their final years of high school. Students
will select from a range of physical education offerings to fulfill this requirement.
This format permits each student to follow through in areas of individual interest.
These offerings are designed to enhance personal fitness and recreational goals
so that they will continue after high school.
Course Objectives:
As a result of Physical Education II instruction in grade 10, 11 or 12, students will:
- Engage in activities which foster learning through exploration, problem solving and creativity.
- Engage in cross-curricular, health related study and activity.
- Become skillful, knowledgeable, and discerning consumers of sport in a safe environment.
- Demonstrate competency in lifetime activities selected.
- Evaluate and modify movement patterns in activities and sports to meet their needs.
- Improve personal fitness.
- Understand the risk factors and safety issues in games and sports.
- Participate in programs which provide opportunities to understand self, develop self-esteem, acquire a positive body image and be able to use their bodies skillfully and creatively in sport, leisure and recreational activities.
- Identify activities which enhance their personal and recreational goals to continue outside and after school or college.
- Explore opportunities for healthy lifetime activities available in the community.
