Research Passes: Student Information

The Research Pass is used to come to the library for a whole period or a portion of a period to use library materials in order to work on a particular research project or paper. There are two ways students may obtain a Research Pass.
  • They may get a pass from the teacher for whom they are doing the research project or paper. For example, they may need to use the library to do research for an English paper. They may then go to their English teacher and be issued a pass to use the library during their regularly scheduled study hall. They show that pass to their study hall teacher at the beginning of the period. When they arrive at the library they will need to stamp their pass at the help desk (just inside the library door) and put it in the box located next to the time stamper. If they finish their research before the end of the period they should take their pass out of the box, stamp it, and return to study hall.
  • They may get a pass at the circulation desk if the teacher they are doing research for has given the library a class list and asked that passes be distributed to the students on that list. These students may come to the library circulation desk before school or between classes, sign in the book provided, fill out a pass, get the pass signed by a library staff member, and show the pass to their study hall teacher at the beginning of the period. When they arrive at the library they will need to stamp their pass at the help desk (just inside the library door) and put it in the box located next to the time stamper. If they finish their research before the end of the period they may take their pass out of the box, stamp it, and return to study hall.

Research Passes: Teacher Information

Study hall teachers may not issue Research Passes to students. Students must be issued a pass from the research teacher or from the library. If teachers wish to save themselves from having to write lots of passes when they have assigned a research project or paper which requires the use of the library, they may give the library a list of the students in their class and the library will issue the Research Passes for them.

Ten-Minute Passes: Student Information

Students may obtain a 10-Minute Pass from their study hall teacher. This pass entitles them to come to the library for ten minutes to check out materials to take back to study hall. They need to stamp their pass at the help desk (just inside the library door) and put it in the box located next to the time stamper. When students leave the library they should take their pass out of the box, stamp it, and return to study hall. Students coming to the library on an agenda pass must sign in on the clipboard at the help desk.

Ten-Minute Passes: Teacher Information

Teachers may give their study hall students 10-Minute Passes so they can come to the library for a short period of time to check out materials and return to study hall. Preprinted 10-Minute Passes are available in the library office. Please only issue one pass at a time. Students are asked to stamp their passes when they arrive and as they leave so teachers can monitor the time they spend in the library. Teachers may also send students to the library by signing their agendas.

Quiet Study Passes: Student Information

The Quiet Study Pass is used by students to come to the library from a study hall to take advantage of the quiet study area where they can sit at a carrel and study with no distractions. Students are not permitted to talk in the quiet study area and must remain in the library for the whole period. They may obtain a Quiet Study Pass by coming to the circulation desk before school or between classes, signing in the book provided, filling out a pass, getting the pass signed by a library staff member and showing the pass to their study hall teacher. Upon returning to the library they should stamp their pass at the help desk (just inside the library door) and put it in the box located by the time stamper.

Quiet Study Passes: Teacher Information

Teachers may issue passes to their classroom or study hall students to use the quiet study area of the library just by writing the words "Quiet Study" on any pass. Study hall teachers may choose to require their students to obtain their Quiet Study Pass from the library. Students using the quiet study area are required to remain in the library for the whole period.

Miscellaneous Pass Information: Student Information

Students who wish to use the library during their lunch period instead of eating may do so if there is seating available.

Before or after school and between classes students may come to the library without a pass.

Miscellaneous Pass Information: Teacher Information

The library will always make room for as many students as possible. However priority for signups will be given to classes that need to use the library. Individual passes will be issued as spaces are available.

Classroom teachers may send up to five students to the library without accompanying them. Students may either come on individual or group passes.

If a student returns to class with WITHDRAWN stamped on the pass that student has been restricted from using the library for the dates specified on the pass. This restriction does not apply to students being brought to the library with their classes.

If a student signs up for a Research Pass or a Quiet Study Pass and does not show up, the teacher will be notified of the absence.
