Library Services: Teacher Only Services

Material Purchases

Materials for the library collection are purchased to supplement the curriculum. Teachers are encouraged to request specific materials for the library to complement their classes. Teachers may also request the library to help find materials to meet specific curriculum requirements.

Book Carts & Bibliographies

Materials for use by particular classes doing research assignments can be assembled on books carts for use in the library or in the classroom. Book carts should be requested 48 hours in advance of the project start date. A form is available in the library for requesting book carts. Please also have available a copy of your assignment sheet to help complete the cart.

Book carts that are used in the library can be signed out to teachers for up to four weeks. Book carts that are used in classrooms can be signed out to teachers for up to two weeks.

The library reserves the right to recall or limit book cart materials during busy research periods when more than one class is using the same materials.

Bibliographies can be created for classroom use or for use in the library.

Audiovisual Services: Equipment Training/Use

The library staff is available to train students and teachers in the use of most of the library's audiovisual equipment as needed. The library keeps a list of students who have been trained in the use of the 35mm camera and the camcorder. Before using these pieces of equipment students are required to sign an equipment use contract. Please do not ask students in your class to operate these pieces of equipment unless they have first been trained and are on the library's list of eligible students.

Audiovisual Services: Off-Air Videotaping

The library will videotape programs off the air for use by teachers in the classroom. There is a separate signup book in the library for videotaping. If you sign up for a taping on the day it is to be done please let someone on the library staff know. If you don't we might miss your taping request.

Audiovisual Services: Duplicating Equipment

The library has two photocopiers. In the library there is a coin-operated photocopier. The main purpose of this machine is to provide students access to a book copier.

In the library production room (rm. 266) there is a large photocopier with a document feeder and sorter. It can be used by staff members to run up to forty copies of an original. Students can be trained to run the photocopier for staff members. Arrangements can be made with the library office aide for training.

There is also a Risograph duplicator in the library production room. It is used for making forty or more copies of an original. It cannot only print on regular paper, but also on card stock. The Risograph is for use only by staff members or students who have been trained to operate it for staff members.

The library staff is not available to make copies for staff members or to supervise untrained students.

The library has duplicating equipment available for copying audio and video tapes. When making requests please keep in mind that the library complies with the M.S.A.D. No. 75 Guidelines For the Use of Audiovisual Works and with all applicable copyright law. Information about the copyright law is available in the library.
